Heavenly Work

The intermediate state is a state of rest and happiness. That, however, does not mean that life there, or life in heaven, will be characterized by idleness and inactivity. Far from it. In the first place, “rest,” in Scriptural language, carries with it the idea of satisfaction in labor, or joy in accomplishment. . . The saints are “before the throne of God; and they serve him day and night in his temple,” Revelation 7:15—they serve Him in work as well as in worship, His temple perhaps including the entire created universe.
