Marriage: A Gift to the Community

Even if you are not married, you will not find a church or a society at large to be a pleasant place if marriages are not manifestations first of this gift of marriage. Mutual indwelling must exist in the marriages of a culture in order for there to be mutual indwelling in the body at large. The Shulamite said, “This is my beloved; and this is my friend.” Martin Luther wrote, “There is no more lovely, friendly, and charming relationship, communion or company than a good marriage.” I would take this further. There is nothing more wonderful and efficacious you can give your children, your church, and your society than a marriage that is living to the glory of God and is manifesting the friendship and alliance resident in that relationship.
