A Greater Jubilee

Jesus rose on the first day of the week (Matt. 28:1). Thus the first “resurrection day”—the inauguration of the the NT sabbath—succeeded the last day of the previous week—the OT sabbath day. This double sabbath of days signaled that the death and resurrection of Christ was a Jubilee far more grand and comprehensive than the Jubilee under the Mosaic system. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ signified a new world order where the sons and daughters of God were decisively liberated from their slavery to sin and the devil; the whole earth (not just land parcels in the territory of Israel) was returned to its rightful Owner to be given over as plunder to the elect (Eph. 4:8).
